What is the Chestertown Havurah
The Hebrew word havurah (or chavurah), which means “fellowship,” dates back to the days of the Temple in Jerusalem. The Chestertown Havurah, the first organized Jewish community in Chestertown or surrounding Kent County, Maryland, is a religious, social, educational and cultural group serving the needs and interests of the Jewish community on the Chesapeake Bay’s Upper Eastern Shore. The Havurah is a non-profit organization that provides a nurturing and informal atmosphere for members of diverse backgrounds, from secular to observant.
